DHAKA, December 12, 2025 — Sharif Osman Hadi, the potential independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 parliamentary constituency and influential spokesperson for the student-led platform Inkilab Mancha, has been placed on life support in a critical condition following a shooting in the capital today.
The information was confirmed by the Director's office at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) this afternoon.
When contacted shortly after 4:00 PM on Friday, DMCH Director Brigadier General Md. Asaduzzaman’s office stated that Hadi's condition is "critical," and a bullet remains lodged inside his head, necessitating life support.
Details of the Daylight Attack
The attempted assassination took place near the Box Culvert area of Bijoynagar at approximately 2:25 PM, immediately after the conclusion of Juma prayers.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Talebur Rahman of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) stated that two assailants on a motorcycle targeted Hadi, opening fire before quickly fleeing the scene.
An eyewitness, Md. Rafi, who was on a rickshaw directly behind Osman Hadi at the time of the attack, described the sequence of events:
"We were coming from Juma prayers towards the High Court on rickshaws. As we arrived in Bijoynagar, two people on a motorcycle drove up, shot Hadi Bhai, and immediately sped away. I was on the rickshaw following right behind him."
Hadi was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a severely wounded state.

The serious injury to Sharif Osman Hadi, a prominent voice from a platform that emerged from the July-August mass uprising, has drawn immediate attention from the highest level of the government.
Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, expressed deep concern over the shooting incident.
The Chief Adviser has issued strict and comprehensive instructions to all law enforcement agencies, directing them to conduct a rapid and thorough investigation. The order emphasizes the need to quickly identify, trace, and bring all individuals involved in the attack to justice under the law.
The attack on a potential parliamentary candidate and public figure comes amidst heightened political preparations for the general election scheduled for February 2026. Hadi, through Inkilab Mancha, has been a vocal proponent of the principles and demands of the July revolution, and has previously reported receiving death threats.

এই হত্যাচেষ্টার ঘটনাটি ঘটে আজ দুপুরে জুমার নামাজের পরপরই, বিজয়নগরের বক্স কালভার্ট এলাকায় আনুমানিক ২:২৫ মিনিটে।
ঢাকা মহানগর পুলিশের (ডিএমপি) গণমাধ্যম ও জনসংযোগ বিভাগের উপকমিশনার (ডিসি) মুহাম্মদ তালেবুর রহমান জানান, দুটি মোটরসাইকেলে করে দুর্বৃত্তরা এসে হাদিকে লক্ষ্য করে গুলি ছোড়ে এবং দ্রুত ঘটনাস্থল থেকে পালিয়ে যায়।
গুরুতর আহত অবস্থায় হাদিকে তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালের জরুরি বিভাগে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়।

২০২৬ সালের ফেব্রুয়ারিতে নির্ধারিত জাতীয় নির্বাচনের আগে একজন সম্ভাব্য প্রার্থীর ওপর দিনের আলোয় এমন হামলা দেশের নিরাপত্তা পরিস্থিতি নিয়ে উদ্বেগ সৃষ্টি করেছে। জানা যায়, জুলাই বিপ্লবের মূলনীতি ও দাবিগুলোর সোচ্চার প্রবক্তা হাদি আগে থেকেই হত্যার হুমকি পাচ্ছিলেন।
