Bangladesh: Jaimah Rahman Receives Posthumous ‘Indomitable Woman’ Award on Behalf of Khaleda Zia

Barrister Jaimah Rahman, granddaughter of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, received a posthumous national award on behalf of the late political leader in recognition of her contributions to women’s education and the advancement of democracy.

The honour, titled “Indomitable Woman”, was presented during a programme marking International Women's Day on Sunday morning at Osmani Memorial Auditorium. The award was handed over by Mohammad Shahabuddin, the President of Bangladesh.

Khaleda Zia, a former prime minister and long-time leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was recognized posthumously for her role in promoting women’s empowerment and democratic progress in the country. Her granddaughter accepted the award on behalf of the family during the ceremony attended by government officials and invited guests.

Several other women were also honoured in different categories for their achievements and contributions. Nurun Nahar Akter received recognition in the category of women’s success in economic activities, while Mosammat Bobita Khatun was awarded for accomplishments in education and professional fields. Nurbanu Kabir was honoured as a successful mother, and Mosammat Shamla Begum received recognition for overcoming violence and rebuilding her life through determination. In the category of outstanding contribution to social development, the award was presented to Mosammat Afroza Yasmin.

Each recipient was acknowledged for their resilience, dedication and impact within their respective fields.

The award programme was organized by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, which annually recognizes women who have made notable contributions to society. The initiative is aimed at encouraging greater participation of women in social, economic and political spheres while highlighting inspiring stories of perseverance, leadership and achievement across the country.
