DHAKA, December 11, 2025 — The 13th national parliamentary election will be held on February 12, 2026.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), A M M Nasir Uddin, announced the election schedule in a televised address to the nation this Thursday evening.

Voter and Security Details
The upcoming elections will see more than 127.6 million registered voters participate.
The Election Commission (EC) is viewing the joint holding of the national election and the referendum on the same day as a significant management challenge. To handle this, the EC has extended polling time by one hour, and the number of secret voting booths in polling centers will be increased.
Regarding security, the government has confirmed that approximately 900,000 security personnel, including members of the armed forces, will be deployed across the country. This represents the largest deployment of security forces in the nation's history, aimed at ensuring a fair and peaceful electoral environment. The EC has also enlisted a record 150,000 police officers.
Political Context
The announcement comes 16 months after the interim government, led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, took office on August 8 last year, following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 amidst student and public protests.
Initially, Professor Yunus had suggested the election might take place in the first half of April 2026. However, following a meeting with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in London on June 13, it was mutually agreed to aim for the first half of February 2026. The government subsequently committed to this revised timeframe, and the EC proceeded with preparations. The Chief Adviser confirmed the joint polls on February’s first half on November 13.
Currently, 56 political parties are registered with the EC.
🗳️ জাতীয় নির্বাচন ও চার্টার গণভোটের তারিখ ১২ ফেব্রুয়ারি
ঢাকা, ১১ ডিসেম্বর, ২০২৫ — বাংলাদেশের ত্রয়োদশ জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচন আগামী ১২ ফেব্রুয়ারি, ২০২৬ তারিখে অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। একই দিনে জুলাই জাতীয় সনদ বাস্তবায়নে গণভোটও গ্রহণ করা হবে। বৃহস্পতিবার সন্ধ্যায় জাতির উদ্দেশে দেওয়া ভাষণে প্রধান নির্বাচন কমিশনার (সিইসি) এ এম এম নাসির উদ্দীন এই নির্বাচনের তফসিল ঘোষণা করেন।
সিইসি জানান, ওই দিন সকাল ৭:৩০ মিনিট থেকে বিকেল ৪:৩০ মিনিট পর্যন্ত একটানা নয় ঘণ্টা ভোট গ্রহণ চলবে।
নির্বাচনী তফসিলের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ তারিখসমূহ
সংসদ নির্বাচনের জন্য ঘোষিত তফসিল অনুযায়ী, গুরুত্বপূর্ণ তারিখগুলো নিচে দেওয়া হলো:
ভোটার ও নিরাপত্তা বিষয়ক তথ্য
আসন্ন নির্বাচনে মোট ১২ কোটি ৭৬ লক্ষের বেশি নিবন্ধিত ভোটার ভোট দেবেন। এবারই প্রথম প্রবাসী বাংলাদেশিরা পোস্টাল ব্যালটের মাধ্যমে ভোট দেওয়ার সুযোগ পাচ্ছেন এবং ইতোমধ্যে ৩ লক্ষেরও বেশি প্রবাসী ভোটার নিবন্ধন করেছেন।
জাতীয় নির্বাচন ও গণভোট একই দিনে অনুষ্ঠিত হওয়ায় নির্বাচন কমিশন (ইসি) এটিকে একটি বড় ব্যবস্থাপনাগত চ্যালেঞ্জ হিসেবে দেখছে। এই চ্যালেঞ্জ মোকাবিলায় ইসি ভোট গ্রহণের সময় এক ঘণ্টা বাড়িয়েছে এবং ভোটকেন্দ্রে গোপন কক্ষের সংখ্যাও বাড়ানো হবে।
নিরাপত্তা প্রসঙ্গে সরকার নিশ্চিত করেছে যে, সশস্ত্র বাহিনীসহ দেশের আইনশৃঙ্খলা রক্ষায় প্রায় ৯ লক্ষ নিরাপত্তা কর্মী মোতায়েন করা হবে। সুষ্ঠু ও শান্তিপূর্ণ নির্বাচনী পরিবেশ নিশ্চিত করার লক্ষ্যে এটি দেশের ইতিহাসে সর্বোচ্চ সংখ্যক বাহিনীর সদস্যের মোতায়েন। এছাড়াও, ইসি রেকর্ড সংখ্যক ১ লক্ষ ৫০ হাজার পুলিশ সদস্য তালিকাভুক্ত করেছে।
রাজনৈতিক প্রেক্ষাপট
ছাত্র-জনতার অভ্যুত্থানের মুখে গত বছরের ৫ আগস্ট আওয়ামী লীগ সরকারের পতনের পর ৮ আগস্ট অধ্যাপক মুহাম্মদ ইউনূসের নেতৃত্বে অন্তর্বর্তী সরকার শপথ নেয়। অন্তর্বর্তী সরকার দায়িত্ব নেওয়ার ১৬ মাস পর ইসি নির্বাচনের তফসিল ঘোষণা করল।
প্রধান উপদেষ্টা অধ্যাপক মুহাম্মদ ইউনূস প্রাথমিকভাবে ২০২৬ সালের এপ্রিলের প্রথমার্ধে নির্বাচনের ইঙ্গিত দিয়েছিলেন। তবে, ১৩ জুন যুক্তরাজ্যের লন্ডনে বিএনপির ভারপ্রাপ্ত চেয়ারম্যান তারেক রহমানের সঙ্গে বৈঠকের পর ফেব্রুয়ারির প্রথমার্ধে নির্বাচন করার বিষয়ে উভয়ে একমত হন। এরপর সরকার বারবার ফেব্রুয়ারির প্রথমার্ধেই নির্বাচনের কথা বলে আসছিল। গত ১৩ নভেম্বর প্রধান উপদেষ্টা ঘোষণা দেন যে, জাতীয় নির্বাচন ও জুলাই জাতীয় সনদ বাস্তবায়নে গণভোট একই দিনে অনুষ্ঠিত হবে।
বর্তমানে ইসিতে ৫৬টি রাজনৈতিক দল নিবন্ধিত রয়েছে। তবে, রাজনৈতিক কর্মকাণ্ড নিষিদ্ধ থাকার কারণে আওয়ামী লীগের নিবন্ধন স্থগিত আছে এবং নিবন্ধন স্থগিত থাকা কোনো দল নির্বাচনে অংশ নিতে পারে না। নিবন্ধিত অন্য দলগুলো এই নির্বাচনে অংশ নিতে পারবে। এছাড়া প্রার্থী হওয়ার যোগ্য যেকোনো ব্যক্তি স্বতন্ত্রভাবেও প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতা করতে পারবেন।
গত বছরের ২১ নভেম্বর এ এম এম নাসির উদ্দীনের নেতৃত্বে নতুন নির্বাচন কমিশন গঠিত হয় এবং এই নির্বাচনটি হবে এই কমিশনের অধীনে প্রথম কোনো নির্বাচন।
