US Warns of Imminent Iranian Strike on Saudi Oil Hub; Trump Says Talks Are ‘Too Late’ as Starmer Rejects Regime Change Strategy
The United States has issued a warning of a possible imminent Iranian attack targeting the Saudi Arabian city of Dhahran, a key center of the kingdom’s oil industry and home to a US consulate. The alert comes amid escalating military confrontation between Washington, Israel and Tehran.
US President Donald Trump declared that negotiations with Iran were no longer an option, saying it was “too late” for talks.
In remarks posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed that Iran’s “air defense, air force, navy, and leadership” had been effectively neutralized following joint US-Israeli operations.
Heavy Casualties Reported in Iran
According to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, at least 787 people have been killed since US and Israeli forces began coordinated strikes on Iran on Saturday.
The attacks reportedly included direct hits on what Israel described as Iran’s “leadership compound” in Tehran, including the presidential office.
Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks across the Gulf region. Several countries have reported interceptions of Iranian projectiles. The United Arab Emirates stated that it had shot down dozens of missiles and hundreds of drones since the conflict intensified.
Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, expressed skepticism about renewed diplomacy, saying Tehran doubts the “usefulness of negotiation” with Washington under current conditions.
Israeli Operations Continue
The Israel Defense Forces said it had concluded a large-scale wave of strikes targeting infrastructure in Tehran and the central city of Isfahan. The military claimed the operation focused on ballistic missile production facilities and launch systems allegedly intended for use against Israel.
Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced plans to expand ground operations in Lebanon to secure additional strategic areas near the border.
UK Boosts Military Presence in Cyprus
The United Kingdom has strengthened its defensive posture in the eastern Mediterranean following reported drone incidents near its military base in Cyprus. Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed that Britain will deploy helicopters equipped with counter-drone systems and send the air-defense destroyer HMS Dragon to the region.
The British base at RAF Akrotiri was reportedly targeted by drones in recent days, though officials described the damage as minimal.
Starmer Distances UK from Offensive Strikes
Prime Minister Keir Starmer told Parliament that the UK “does not believe in regime change from the skies,” signaling disagreement with President Trump over the joint US-Israeli military campaign against Iran.
While defending Britain’s decision not to participate in the initial wave of strikes, Starmer said it was his responsibility to act in the UK’s national interest.
He acknowledged Trump’s criticism of London’s refusal to allow British bases to be used for the early offensive operations, but stressed that the UK would only permit its facilities to be used for defensive purposes.
The prime minister emphasized that Britain is not joining offensive action and remains focused on protecting its personnel and regional interests.
Regional and Global Impact
The widening conflict has disrupted air travel and raised fears of further instability in the Gulf. Oil and gas prices climbed sharply on international markets, while global stock indices declined amid investor concerns over energy supply and regional security.
The crisis began after the United States and Israel launched strikes that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has since retaliated with a series of attacks affecting multiple Gulf states and key maritime routes.
As tensions continue to mount, diplomatic efforts appear stalled, with both sides signaling that further escalation remains possible.
