Trump Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to Iran as Search for Missing Airman Intensifies

Trump Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to Iran as Search for Missing Airman Intensifies

WASHINGTON / TEHRAN — Tensions in the Middle East have reached a critical breaking point as President Donald Trump issued a final 48-hour warning to Tehran, demanding the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

The ultimatum comes amid a frantic, high-stakes search for a missing U.S. Air Force officer and reports of multiple American aircraft being downed or damaged by Iranian defenses.

"All Hell Will Reign Down": The Monday Deadline

In a series of posts on Truth Social on Saturday, President Trump warned that "time is running out" for the Iranian leadership. He set a strict Monday deadline for Iran to "MAKE A DEAL" or face a massive military escalation.

"Time is running out - 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them. Glory be to GOD!" the President wrote.

The administration’s demands remain firm: Iran must completely abandon its nuclear enrichment capabilities, halt its ballistic missile program, and cease regional military activities in exchange for any potential relief from crippling sanctions.

    Rescue Operations Face "Harrowing" Resistance

The geopolitical standoff is complicated by a desperate Search and Rescue (SAR) mission currently unfolding in southern Iran. Following the downing of a U.S. F-15E Strike Eagle on Friday, the pilot was successfully recovered, but the Weapons Systems Officer (WSO) remains missing.

The rescue mission has proven incredibly dangerous:

    • Helicopters Under Fire: Two Black Hawk rescue helicopters were struck by enemy fire during the search. While the crews sustained injuries, they managed to land the damaged aircraft safely.

    • Second Jet Downed: An A-10 Warthog also "crashed" near the Strait of Hormuz after taking fire. Fortunately, that pilot was safely recovered.

    • Israeli Support: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have temporarily halted offensive strikes on Iran to assist the U.S. with intelligence and surveillance to locate the missing airman.

    Economic Ripples and Military Expansion

Despite the brewing conflict, President Trump touted a "historic" drop in the U.S. trade deficit and strong job growth. On Friday, the Labor Department reported 178,000 new jobs for March, bringing the unemployment rate down to 4.3%.

However, the cost of the conflict is reflected in the President's latest 2027 budget request, which seeks a massive $1.5 trillion for national defense—a 42% increase from current levels. The funding aims to bolster the defense industrial base and replenish munitions exhausted during the six-week war.

Global Energy Crisis Sparks EU Backlash

The conflict is sending shockwaves through global energy markets. Gas prices have surged by over 70% since the war began on February 28, prompting five EU finance ministers—from Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Austria—to call for a windfall tax on energy companies.

"Those who profit from the consequences of the war must do their part to ease the burden on the general public," the ministers wrote in a joint letter to the European Commission.

As the 48-hour clock ticks down, the international community remains on edge. Whether Tehran will blink in the face of Trump’s "All Hell" ultimatum or the region will descend into a wider, more catastrophic conflict remains the central question as Monday approaches.
