Tremor Jolts Dhaka Again- রাজধানীতে আবারও ভূমিকম্প
Bangladesh: A mild earthquake was felt in Dhaka and several surrounding districts early Thursday, creating brief alarm among residents in multi-storey buildings.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the tremor struck at 6:14:45am, registering 4.1 magnitude on the Richter scale.
BMD officials confirmed that the epicentre was located in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi, about 38 kilometres northeast of the Agargaon-based Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre.
The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) placed the epicentre slightly differently—around 3 kilometres north of Narsingdi and 33 kilometres east-northeast of Tongi—with an estimated depth of 30 kilometres.
Series of Recent Quakes
Over the past weeks, Bangladesh has experienced multiple tremors, many originating from Narsingdi.
On 21 November, a stronger 5.7-magnitude earthquake rattled Dhaka and several districts, leaving 10 people dead and injuring more than 600. That quake’s epicentre was in Madhabdi, only 10 kilometres below the Earth’s surface.
Several aftershocks and light-to-moderate tremors have followed since then. The most recent before today occurred on 1 December, measuring 4.9 magnitude, with an epicentre in Minjin, Myanmar, and felt in parts of Chattogram.
Earlier, on 27 November, a 3.6-magnitude tremor shook Dhaka, originating from Ghorashal in Palash upazila. Sylhet and Teknaf also reported two separate tremors that morning.
Regional Quakes Heighten Concern
A moderate earthquake on Friday morning rattled areas of Bangladesh and eastern India, hours after two separate quakes struck Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Residents in Dhaka’s Bashundhara, Chandpur, Narayanganj, Bogura, Barishal, Moulvibazar, Jhenaidah, Magura, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna and several northern districts reported noticeable shaking.
In Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal, Indian media noted that fans, furniture, and light fixtures swayed for several seconds, sparking panic.
Why Narsingdi Is Active
Experts say Narsingdi lies near the interaction zone of the Burma Plate and the Indian Plate, a known subduction zone where frequent seismic activity is common.
Authorities have advised residents to remain alert, as aftershocks cannot be ruled out. No reports of casualties or major damage were received as of filing this report.

রাজধানী ঢাকাসহ আশপাশের জেলায় বৃহস্পতিবার সকাল ৬টা ১৪ মিনিট ৪৫ সেকেন্ডে হালকা ভূমিকম্প অনুভূত হয়েছে।
বাংলাদেশ আবহাওয়া অধিদপ্তর জানায়, রিখটার স্কেলে ভূমিকম্পটির মাত্রা ছিল ৪ দশমিক ১ এবং এর উৎপত্তিস্থল ছিল নরসিংদীর শিবপুরে।
আগারগাঁওয়ে আবহাওয়া অধিদপ্তরের ভূমিকম্প পর্যবেক্ষণ ও গবেষণা কেন্দ্র থেকে পাওয়া তথ্যে বলা হয়, উৎপত্তিস্থলটি কেন্দ্র থেকে প্রায় ৩৮ কিলোমিটার উত্তর-পূর্বে অবস্থিত ছিল।
অন্যদিকে, ইউরো-মেডিটেরিয়ান সিসমোলজিক্যাল সেন্টার (ইএমএসসি) জানায়, ভূমিকম্পটির কেন্দ্র ছিল গাজীপুরের টঙ্গী থেকে ৩৩ কিলোমিটার পূর্ব-উত্তরপূর্বে এবং নরসিংদী থেকে ৩ কিলোমিটার উত্তরে। ভূপৃষ্ঠ থেকে এর গভীরতা ছিল ৩০ কিলোমিটার।
সাম্প্রতিক সময়ের ধারাবাহিক ভূকম্পন
গত কয়েক সপ্তাহ ধরে নরসিংদী এলাকায় ধারাবাহিক ভূকম্পন অনুভূত হচ্ছে। এর আগে ২১ নভেম্বর রিখটার স্কেলে ৫ দশমিক ৭ মাত্রার একটি শক্তিশালী ভূমিকম্প ঢাকাসহ দেশের বিভিন্ন জায়গায় আঘাত হানে। এতে ১০ জন নিহত ও ৬০০-র বেশি মানুষ আহত হন। ভূমিকম্পটির কেন্দ্র ছিল নরসিংদীর মাধবদীতে, ভূপৃষ্ঠ থেকে মাত্র ১০ কিলোমিটার গভীরে।
সাম্প্রতিক সময়ে একাধিক মৃদু ভূমিকম্পের উৎসও নরসিংদী অঞ্চল। সর্বশেষ ১ ডিসেম্বর রাত ১২টা ৫৫ মিনিটে ৪ দশমিক ৯ মাত্রার কম্পন অনুভূত হয়, যার কেন্দ্র ছিল মিয়ানমারের মিনজিনে। এটি চট্টগ্রামসহ দেশের বিভিন্ন এলাকায় অনুভূত হয়েছিল।
এর আগে ২৭ নভেম্বর বিকেল ৪টা ১৫ মিনিটে ঢাকায় ৩ দশমিক ৬ মাত্রার ভূমিকম্প হয়, যার উৎস ছিল নরসিংদীর পালাশ উপজেলার ঘোড়াশাল। ওই দিন ভোরে সিলেট ও টেকনাফেও দুটি আলাদা ভূকম্পন অনুভূত হয়েছিল।
দেশ-বিদেশে ভূমিকম্প নিয়ে সতর্কতা বৃদ্ধি
সম্প্রতি বাংলাদেশ, ভারত, পাকিস্তান ও আফগানিস্তানে একাধিক ভূমিকম্পের ঘটনা বিশেষ উদ্বেগ সৃষ্টি করেছে। ঢাকার বসুন্ধরা, নারায়ণগঞ্জ, বাশারিয়া, চাঁদপুর, সিরাজগঞ্জ, বগুড়া, বরিশাল, মৌলভীবাজারসহ বিভিন্ন জায়গায় মানুষ ভবন থেকে বেরিয়ে আসেন।
ভারতের পশ্চিমবঙ্গেও কম্পন অনুভূত হয়। কলকাতার বিভিন্ন এলাকায় ঘরের ফ্যান, সোফা ও আসবাবপত্র কেঁপে ওঠার খবর পাওয়া গেছে।
কেন নরসিংদীতে ধারাবাহিক কম্পন?
বিশেষজ্ঞরা বলছেন, নরসিংদী এলাকা বার্মা প্লেট ও ইন্ডিয়ান প্লেটের সংযোগস্থলে অবস্থিত, যা একটি সাবডাকশন জোন। ফলে এ অঞ্চলে ভূমিকম্প হওয়া স্বাভাবিক।
তবে এখন পর্যন্ত কোনো বড় ধরনের ক্ষয়ক্ষতির খবর পাওয়া যায়নি। আবহাওয়া অধিদপ্তর সতর্ক করে জানিয়েছে, পরবর্তী আফটারশক হওয়ার সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে, তাই সবাইকে সতর্ক থাকার পরামর্শ দেওয়া হয়েছে।
