‘Tehran’ Producer Dana Eden Found Dead in Athens During Filming

‘Tehran’ Producer Dana Eden Found Dead in Athens During Filming

Dana Eden, an award-winning Israeli television producer and co-creator of the acclaimed drama series Tehran, has died at the age of 52. She was found unresponsive in a hotel room in Athens on Sunday while overseeing production of the show’s fourth season in Greece.

Israeli public broadcaster Kan confirmed the news, stating that Eden had been in Greece to supervise filming.

    Discovered by Family Member

Hebrew-language media reported that Eden’s brother discovered her after becoming concerned when she stopped responding to calls and messages. He reportedly went to her hotel, where she was found lifeless.

Greek authorities have ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Police are also reviewing hotel security footage and gathering statements from staff as part of standard procedure. Officials have not released further details pending the investigation.

    Broadcaster Pays Tribute

In a statement, the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation expressed deep sorrow over Eden’s passing.

The broadcaster described her as one of the leading figures in Israel’s television industry, highlighting her significant role in producing and shaping numerous influential programs and series. The statement noted that her professional achievements and personal dedication would leave a lasting impact on Israeli television.

    Production Company Rejects Rumors

Eden was a partner at Donna and Shula Productions, alongside producer Shula Spiegel. The company released a statement dismissing online speculation suggesting foul play.

The production house emphasized that there was no indication of criminal or politically motivated activity related to her death. It urged the public and media to avoid spreading unverified claims and to respect the family’s privacy during a time of grief.

    Legacy in International Television

“Tehran,” which has received international acclaim and won an International Emmy Award, is also available on Apple TV+. The series was created and written by Moshe Zonder, Dana Eden, and Maor Kohn.

Due to travel restrictions preventing Israelis from entering Iran, parts of Athens were used as a visual substitute for Tehran after Eden identified similarities between the two cities during a previous visit.

Throughout her career, Eden co-produced more than 40 television series and films across scripted and documentary genres. Among the notable titles were children’s programs, dramas, and documentaries that gained both domestic and international recognition.

Colleagues say her influence on Israeli television will continue to resonate for years to come.
