NSU Hosts Two-Day Faculty Workshop Focused on Gender Equity and Preventing Sexual Harassment
DHAKA, 7 May 2026 – North South University (NSU) recently hosted a comprehensive two-day faculty workshop titled “Fostering Respectful Workplaces: Awareness of Sexual Harassment and Gender Equity.”
Held on 5–6 May 2026, the event was designed to deepen understanding, elevate awareness, and cultivate a safe, inclusive, and dignified environment across the university campus.
The specialized program was organized by NSU’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). Opening the event, Dr. Halimur R. Khan, Director of IQAC, delivered the welcome address.
He highlighted the critical need for continuous education on sexual harassment and reiterated NSU’s unwavering zero-tolerance stance against discrimination and harassment.
Dr. Khan also noted that this workshop is the inaugural installment of a broader, long-term series of capacity-building programs aimed at cementing a safe and supportive professional culture at NSU.

The workshop series was officially inaugurated by a distinguished panel of university leaders, including:

Professor Abdur Rob Khan, Treasurer of NSU
In his opening address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury urged faculty members to be active participants in these institutional efforts, noting their vital role in reinforcing a supportive academic community.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasar U. Ahmed spoke on the necessity of long-term institutional dedication, emphasizing that maintaining strict professional ethics and gender parity is essential to the university's mission.
Adding to the discussion, Treasurer Professor Abdur Rob Khan focused on the behavioral aspect of a healthy workspace, stating:
“A respectful workplace is not created through policies alone. It is created through everyday actions—through how we speak, how we behave, how we respond to others, and how we uphold the dignity of those around us.”
Interactive Sessions and Practical Insights
The training sessions were led by two prominent facilitators and experts: Dr. Nova Ahmed, Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at NSU, and Dr. Abantee Harun, Assistant Professor at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and active social advocate.
The curriculum integrated dynamic presentations, analyses of real-world case studies, and collaborative group exercises. Participants engaged directly with topics such as:
Recognizing and preventing sexual harassment
Advancing gender equity in academia
Upholding professional conduct and ethical boundaries
Strategies for cultivating an inclusive campus climate
The successful two-day event drew to a close with a formal ceremony, where commemorative crests were presented to Professor Nova Ahmed on the first day and Professor Abantee Harun on the second day in recognition of their valuable contributions.
