Five-Day Nationwide School Holiday Announced
Educational institutions across Bangladesh will observe a continuous five-day holiday starting tomorrow, following a government decision linked to the 13th National Parliamentary Election, an upcoming referendum, and the religious festival of Maha Shivaratri.
According to the Ministry of Education, the holiday period will begin on Wednesday, February 11, and continue through Sunday, February 15. Regular academic activities, including classroom instruction and examinations, will resume on Monday, February 16.
Officials confirmed that February 11 and 12 (Wednesday and Thursday) have been declared general holidays in line with directives from the Election Commission and government authorities. This will be followed by the regular weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday (February 13–14).
An additional holiday on Sunday, February 15, has been granted in observance of the Hindu religious festival Shri Shri Shivaratri Brata, extending the break to five consecutive days.
As per the ministry’s annual holiday calendar, this marks the longest continuous academic break of 2026 so far and is recognized as the fifth government holiday of the year. Students, teachers, and guardians are advised to take note of the revised academic schedule.
