Despite a federal court order blocking the removals, the United States has deported over 200 Venezuelans to El Salvador, accusing them of being members of dangerous gangs.
The group, primarily linked to the Tren de Aragua gang, along with members of MS-13, arrived in El Salvador on Sunday morning.
El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele confirmed the deportations, revealing that 238 individuals from Tren de Aragua and 23 from MS-13 had been sent back. However, both the US and El Salvador have remained tight-lipped about the identities of the deported individuals and the specific details of their alleged criminal activities.
The deportations took place despite a ruling from a federal judge, who had blocked the Trump administration’s use of an old wartime law to justify the removals. Although the judge’s order was in place, the deportation flights had already been carried out.
