Trump Threatens to Target Iran’s Power Plants as Strait of Hormuz Crisis Deepens

Trump Threatens to Target Iran’s Power Plants as Strait of Hormuz Crisis Deepens

Tensions in the Middle East have escalated sharply after Donald Trump warned that the United States would “obliterate” Iran’s power plants if Tehran fails to fully reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.

The narrow waterway, a key route for nearly a fifth of global oil shipments, has become a central flashpoint in the ongoing conflict.

Iran responded with a strong warning of its own, saying any attack on its energy infrastructure would trigger retaliation against all US-linked facilities across the Middle East.

Officials in Tehran signaled that energy sites and supply networks could become primary targets if the situation escalates further.

Meanwhile, the conflict continues to inflict damage on multiple fronts. Iranian missile strikes on southern Israeli towns, including areas near the Dimona Nuclear Facility, have left more than 160 people injured, according to Israeli emergency services.

Residential neighborhoods in cities such as Arad and Dimona sustained heavy damage, with several buildings partially destroyed.

Israeli authorities confirmed that their air defense systems intercepted many incoming threats, but some missiles penetrated the defenses, raising concerns about vulnerabilities.

The strikes reportedly occurred close to sensitive nuclear-related infrastructure, although international monitors have said there is no evidence of damage to the facility itself.

At the same time, Israel launched a fresh wave of overnight airstrikes on targets in Tehran, continuing a cycle of escalation that began with joint US-Israeli operations earlier in the conflict. The strikes have contributed to widespread destruction in parts of the Iranian capital.

Across the Gulf region, security concerns are mounting. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates reported intercepting missile attacks, while a blast near a cargo vessel close to UAE waters has added to fears over maritime safety.

Shipping disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz have already driven up global energy prices and raised alarms about supply shortages.

In a related development, an attempted Iranian strike targeted the joint UK-US military base on Diego Garcia, though details remain limited. Yvette Cooper said the United Kingdom does not intend to be drawn into a broader regional war.

Inside Iran, the situation remains tense, with a prolonged internet blackout complicating communication.

Residents have expressed growing concern over the potential impact of attacks on critical infrastructure, particularly electricity systems, which are essential for daily life.

Analysts warn that the dispute over the Strait of Hormuz could prove निर्णायक. For Iran, restricting access to the waterway provides strategic leverage, while for the United States and its allies, keeping it open is crucial to maintaining global energy flows.

Any direct strike on power plants could significantly escalate the conflict, potentially drawing in more regional actors and deepening the crisis.

As both sides exchange threats and military actions intensify, the risk of a wider confrontation across the Middle East continues to grow.
