Trump Calls NATO Allies ‘Cowards’ as Iran War Escalates and Civilian Toll Rises
Tensions within Western alliances have intensified after US President Donald Trump sharply criticised NATO members, accusing them of failing to support Washington and Israel in the ongoing conflict with Iran.
In recent remarks, Trump described traditional allies as “cowards” over what he sees as a lack of commitment, signalling growing frustration within the US administration. Reports suggest he has also hinted at possible diplomatic consequences for countries unwilling to take a stronger stance.
NATO Rift Deepens Amid War Pressure
Trump’s comments reflect widening divisions within the NATO alliance. While the US and Israel continue military operations, several European nations have shown reluctance to become directly involved.
The criticism underscores a broader shift in alliance dynamics, with Washington appearing increasingly prepared to act independently if support remains limited.
Civilian Death Toll Continues to Climb
The humanitarian situation remains critical as the conflict intensifies. According to Iranian relief authorities, at least 1,444 people have been killed in Iran, including 204 children.
In neighbouring Lebanon, Israeli strikes have resulted in more than 1,000 deaths, further highlighting the expanding regional impact of the war.
Regional Tensions Expand Beyond Iran
The conflict is spreading across multiple fronts in the Middle East. Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun has condemned reported attacks on Kuwait, calling them a violation of sovereignty and international law during a conversation with the country’s leadership.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for launching rockets toward Israeli villages and military positions in northern Israel and southern Lebanon, raising fears of further escalation.
Iran Steps Up Security and Intelligence Operations
Iranian authorities have reported the arrest of 45 individuals accused of acting as “mercenaries” or collaborating with hostile networks. Officials claim some of those detained were involved in sharing sensitive military information or planning attacks.
At the same time, Iran has asserted that its oil exports from Kharg Island—a critical hub for crude shipments—continue without disruption despite recent strikes.
Israeli Strikes Target Intelligence Officials
The Israeli military has claimed it carried out an air strike in Tehran that killed a senior figure within Iran’s intelligence structure. The operation, reportedly involving coordination between multiple intelligence agencies, has not yet been independently verified.
Ongoing Conflict Fuels Global Uncertainty
As military operations continue, the conflict is reshaping geopolitical alliances and increasing instability across the region. Rising casualties, cross-border attacks, and political tensions within NATO are adding to concerns about a prolonged crisis.
With no immediate resolution in sight, the situation remains volatile, and the risk of further escalation continues to grow.
