Trump and Putin Agree to Initiate Talks on Ukraine War Resolution

US President Donald Trump announced that he had an "extensive and highly constructive" conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which both leaders consented to launch negotiations aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine.
In a statement on his Truth Social platform, Trump revealed that he and Putin had agreed to direct their respective teams to commence discussions without delay.
He also mentioned plans to reach out to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to brief him on the development.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed Putin’s endorsement of the initiative, stating that the Russian leader agreed it was the right moment to seek a collaborative resolution.
The conversation between Trump and Putin reportedly lasted close to 90 minutes, during which Putin extended an invitation for Trump to visit Moscow.
Ukraine’s presidential office later verified that Zelensky had engaged in a call with Trump, with sources indicating that the discussion spanned about an hour.
Meanwhile, at a NATO summit, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth suggested that expecting Ukraine to reclaim all territories lost since 2014 was "not a practical outlook."
This latest development marks a potential shift in diplomatic efforts concerning the ongoing war, although further details on the negotiation process remain unclear.
