Seven Dead in North Carolina Plane Crash
Seven people lost their lives on Thursday after a small private jet crashed at a regional airport in Statesville, North Carolina, US, according to local police.
Authorities said the victims included former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, along with his wife and their two children.
The Cessna C550 aircraft went down at around 10:20 a.m. Eastern Time while attempting to land, sparking a major fire on the runway, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed.
Flight data from tracking website FlightAware showed that the jet took off shortly after 10 a.m., but soon returned to the same airport and attempted an emergency landing.
Video footage from the scene captured firefighters and emergency crews rushing toward the runway as flames engulfed the scattered wreckage.
Statesville Regional Airport Manager John Ferguson told reporters that the FAA had taken control of the crash site. He added that the airport has been closed indefinitely until debris is cleared and the runway is declared safe.
The FAA said it is conducting a joint investigation with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to determine the cause of the crash.

ঘটনার ভিডিওতে দেখা যায়, রানওয়েতে ছড়িয়ে থাকা ধ্বংসাবশেষে আগুন জ্বলতে থাকলে জরুরি উদ্ধারকর্মীরা দ্রুত ঘটনাস্থলে ছুটে যান।
স্টেটসভিল আঞ্চলিক বিমানবন্দরের ব্যবস্থাপক জন ফার্গুসন জানান, দুর্ঘটনাস্থলের নিয়ন্ত্রণ এখন FAA-এর হাতে রয়েছে। নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত না হওয়া পর্যন্ত বিমানবন্দরটি অনির্দিষ্টকালের জন্য বন্ধ থাকবে।
FAA জানিয়েছে, দুর্ঘটনার কারণ অনুসন্ধানে ন্যাশনাল ট্রান্সপোর্টেশন সেফটি বোর্ড (NTSB)-এর সঙ্গে যৌথভাবে তদন্ত শুরু করা হয়েছে।
