Protest Against Irregularities in Embankment Construction in Satkhira

Locals formed a human chain at Shyamnagar in Satkhira, protesting alleged irregularities and corruption in the construction of embankments by the Water Development Board.
The event was organized by the Burigoalini Union Parishad and local residents Wednesday morning on the embankment along the Kholpetua River.
Addressing the program, the participants alleged that funds allocated for three projects in Burigoalini were being misused and the construction lacked transparency.
The Water Development Board had not disclosed any project-related information and construction was proceeding under the discretion of its officials without any oversight from higher authorities, they claimed.
The speakers urged the authorities to investigate the matter promptly.
Chairman of Burigoalini Union Parishad, Haji Nazrul Islam, presided over the protest. Other speakers included Union Parishad members Gazi Abid Hasan, Md. Abdur Razzak, Md. Haider Ali, Bikash Mullick, local community leaders, and members of various social organizations.
Meanwhile, Shyamnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rabiul Hasan stated that the district administration of Satkhira was informed of the allegations through a written complaint.
