Armed militants from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) launched a deadly assault on a train in Pakistan’s volatile Balochistan region on Tuesday, reportedly killing 20 soldiers and taking 182 passengers hostage.
The BLA, which advocates for Balochistan’s independence, also claimed responsibility for shooting down a drone during the attack.
In a statement, the militant group assured that civilian passengers, including women, children, the elderly, and Baloch citizens, were safely released and escorted to secure locations.
Balochistan remains a flashpoint for insurgency, with nationalist groups in the region demanding a more significant share of the province's wealth and resources.
