Pakistan reports 297 Afghan Taliban killed in Operation Ghazab lil-Haq strikes

Pakistan reports 297 Afghan Taliban killed in Operation Ghazab lil-Haq strikes

Pakistan has stated that at least 297 Afghan Taliban fighters were killed during the ongoing military operation Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, which Islamabad launched following what it described as cross-border firing from Afghan territory. The latest update came from the prime minister’s spokesperson for foreign media, Mosharraf Zaidi.

According to the statement, Pakistani airstrikes targeted military installations across 29 locations inside Afghanistan, including areas in Kabul, Kandahar and Paktia provinces. Officials claimed that more than 450 people were injured, while 89 military posts were destroyed and 18 others were captured during the operation. Pakistani authorities also reported the destruction of 135 tanks and armoured personnel carriers allegedly belonging to Afghan Taliban forces.

The military campaign was launched after incidents of cross-border firing, which Pakistan described as an unprovoked attack originating from Afghan territory. The government maintains that the operation is aimed at dismantling militant infrastructure rather than targeting civilians.

The administration of the Taliban government of Afghanistan acknowledged that the airstrikes took place but has not independently confirmed the casualty figures. The conflict has raised international concern, with the United Nations calling for an immediate ceasefire and urging both sides to resolve disputes through diplomatic channels.

The situation has also drawn reactions from global and regional actors, including the Iran, which expressed deep concern over the escalation, and the United States Department of State, which reiterated support for Pakistan’s right to defend itself while monitoring the developing situation.
