Japan Lifts Tsunami Alert After Strong Quake
Japanese authorities have lifted a tsunami advisory issued after a magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck Japan’s north-eastern region at 11:44 am local time (02:44 GMT) on Friday.
The quake, which hit off the northern Pacific coast, caused minor “sea level fluctuations,” though officials say there is no threat of significant damage.
More than 6,000 residents from coastal areas of Aomori Prefecture, the northernmost part of Japan’s main island, were evacuated as a precaution. The incident follows a stronger 7.5-magnitude tremor in the same region just days earlier, which left at least 50 people injured.

জাপানের উত্তর-পূর্বাঞ্চলে শুক্রবার সকাল ১১টা ৪৪ মিনিটে (০২:৪৪ GMT) ৬.৭ মাত্রার ভূমিকম্প আঘাত হানার পর জারি করা সুনামি সতর্কতা তুলে নেওয়া হয়েছে।
উত্তর প্রশান্ত উপকূলজুড়ে সামান্য জলোচ্ছ্বাস সৃষ্টি হলেও বড় ধরনের ক্ষতির আশঙ্কা নেই বলে কর্তৃপক্ষ নিশ্চিত করেছে।
এ ঘটনায় আওমোরি প্রিফেকচারের উপকূলবর্তী এলাকা থেকে ৬ হাজারের বেশি মানুষকে নিরাপদ স্থানে সরিয়ে নেওয়া হয়। কয়েক দিন আগেই একই অঞ্চলে ৭.৫ মাত্রার আরও শক্তিশালী ভূমিকম্পে অন্তত ৫০ জন আহত হয়েছিল।
