RT Journalist Allegedly Targeted by Israeli Strike in Southern Lebanon (Watch Video)
A television reporter narrowly avoided injury when a missile struck just metres away during a live broadcast in southern Lebanon. The dramatic moment was captured on video and later circulated widely online.
The footage, aired by Russian state broadcaster RT, shows journalist Steve Sweeney reporting from the field when the projectile lands close to his position. Both the reporter and his cameraman survived the incident and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Independent verification by BBC confirmed the authenticity of the footage.
Intensifying Conflict in Southern Lebanon
The incident comes amid ongoing Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon, where air strikes and ground actions have continued to escalate. The region has witnessed repeated exchanges of fire, raising concerns about broader instability across the Middle East.
Energy Infrastructure Attacks Raise Global Concerns
At the same time, tensions are spilling over into the energy sector. Iran has warned it will show “zero restraint” if further strikes target its oil and gas infrastructure, following recent attacks on key facilities.
A major strike on the Ras Laffan energy complex in Qatar has already triggered international alarm. Officials in Qatar described the attack as a dangerous escalation and called for an immediate halt to hostilities.
Meanwhile, missile debris reportedly caused damage at an oil refinery in Haifa, highlighting the vulnerability of critical infrastructure in the conflict zone.
Global Impact and Rising Energy Prices
The disruption has had immediate economic consequences. Energy prices have surged across Europe and beyond, with supply routes—particularly the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz—facing severe disruption.
Western powers including the United Kingdom, France and Germany have condemned attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure, urging restraint from all sides.
US Position on Military Involvement
US President Donald Trump said there are currently no plans to deploy American ground troops in the region. However, he warned Iran against further escalation, as the conflict continues to unfold.
Analysts say the targeting of energy facilities marks a significant escalation, with potential long-term consequences for global markets and regional stability.
