Israel Strikes Tehran security headquarters as Iran Hits U.S. Regional Bases (Follow slider for more updates)
The military confrontation in the Middle East has reached a critical flashpoint today as Israel launched "large-scale" airstrikes against security and paramilitary headquarters across Tehran.
The escalation follows a series of retaliatory strikes by Iran targeting U.S. diplomatic and military installations in the Gulf.
Tehran Under Fire
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed they have struck dozens of regime targets in the Iranian capital, specifically focusing on the Basij paramilitary headquarters, missile launch sites, and military logistics centers. Witnesses in eastern Tehran reported massive explosions and plumes of smoke rising over the city.
This offensive coincides with the scheduled funeral ceremonies for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed during the initial wave of attacks on Saturday.
While Khamenei’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei, is rumored to be the frontrunner to succeed him, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a stark warning: any successor who continues to threaten Israel or the U.S. will be targeted for "elimination."
Iran Retaliates Against U.S. Assets
Iran has responded to the ongoing bombardment by targeting American facilities and allies across the region:
Qatar: A ballistic missile struck the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest U.S. military installation in the Middle East. While the base was hit, Qatari officials reported no casualties.
Dubai: Verified footage shows the U.S. Consulate in Dubai in flames after being struck by an Iranian drone on Tuesday night. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the strike hit a parking lot near the main building; all personnel are accounted for.
Kuwait: In a tragic development, an 11-year-old girl was killed by falling shrapnel in a residential area, marking the first civilian casualty in the country during this conflict.
Naval and Regional Impact
The conflict has also spilled into international waters. A distress call was received from the IRIS Dena, an Iranian naval vessel currently sinking near Sri Lanka. While the cause remains unconfirmed, Sri Lankan authorities have rescued roughly 180 sailors, with 30 reported injured.
Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command reported that the scale of the joint U.S.-Israeli bombing campaign has surpassed the "shock and awe" phase of the 2003 Iraq War. Admiral Brad Cooper stated that the U.S. has already destroyed 17 Iranian ships, effectively neutralizing the Iranian Navy.
Global Evacuation Efforts
With regional airspace largely closed, nations are scrambling to evacuate stranded citizens:
United Kingdom: The Foreign Office has chartered a flight from Muscat, Oman, scheduled to depart tonight to rescue some of the estimated 300,000 British nationals in the region.
Australia & France: Both nations are coordinating with airlines to assist hundreds of thousands of their citizens currently trapped by the closure of commercial flight paths.
South Korea: Global economic anxiety triggered a massive sell-off in Seoul, forcing the Kospi exchange to trigger a "circuit breaker" after stocks plummeted by more than 8%.
Conflict Statistics (as of March 4): | Category | Data | | :--- | :--- | | Civilian Deaths in Iran | 1,097 (including 181 children) | | U.S. Targets Hit | 2,000 | | Iranian Missiles/Drones Launched | 2,500+ |
