Tensions between Iran and Israel may ease following US President Donald Trump's announcement of a "complete and total ceasefire" expected to take effect shortly.
Trump’s statement comes after Iran indicated it would cease hostilities if Israel ends its attacks. However, Israel has not yet issued an official response.
Iranian officials stated that Israeli strikes on Tehran continued until 4:00 am local time, marking the deadline Tehran had set for Israel to stop its offensive. In retaliation for earlier attacks on its nuclear facilities, Iran launched missiles targeting a US airbase in Qatar.
President Trump characterised Iran’s response as “very weak,” noting that there were no casualties among US or Qatari forces. He also acknowledged that Iran gave advance warning before the missile launch.
Qatar confirmed that all missiles aimed at Al Udeid Air Base were intercepted, condemning the attack as a clear violation of international norms.
The exchange comes just two days after American forces carried out extensive airstrikes on three nuclear sites in Iran.
