Harry and Meghan Visit Jordan to Spotlight Refugee Health Initiatives
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have arrived in Jordan for a two-day visit aimed at highlighting humanitarian efforts supporting refugees and vulnerable communities across the region.
Prince Harry and Meghan travelled to Amman at the invitation of Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, marking their first international trip together in 18 months.
Focus on Health and Displacement
Upon arrival, the couple were welcomed at the WHO’s country office, where they participated in a high-level roundtable discussion. Representatives from United Nations agencies, diplomatic missions and humanitarian donors joined talks focused on healthcare access, mental health services and long-term support for displaced families living in Jordan.
Jordan plays a central role in regional humanitarian operations, hosting refugee communities while supporting international aid programmes.
Visit to Za’atari Refugee Camp
The Sussexes later travelled north of the capital to the Za'atari Refugee Camp, one of the largest refugee camps in the Middle East. The camp houses thousands of families who have fled conflict and now live in semi-permanent housing.
During their visit, Harry and Meghan toured a youth centre operated by Questscope, a social development organisation providing educational and creative programmes. The couple observed art sessions, music performances and sports activities designed to promote wellbeing and resilience among young people.
Teenagers performed traditional Arabic music, while others demonstrated photography and creative projects aimed at boosting confidence and mental health.
Continued Humanitarian Engagement
The visit also includes planned meetings with Jordanian officials and frontline health teams. The Duke and Duchess are expected to engage with WHO staff overseeing public health initiatives in the country.
Their charitable organisation, the Archewell Foundation, has supported global health campaigns and youth-focused programmes in recent years. The foundation has previously partnered with the WHO on vaccine equity initiatives and child protection efforts.
A Broader Global Role
Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and relocating to California, the Sussexes have maintained an active international presence. Their recent overseas visits have focused on youth empowerment, digital responsibility and veteran support through initiatives linked to the Invictus Games.
Their Jordan visit signals a continued commitment to humanitarian diplomacy, with a particular focus on health access and youth development in displacement settings.
