Fury Erupts as Israelis Protest Netanyahu’s Renewed Gaza Offensive

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced intense public outrage as protests erupted outside the Knesset following his decision to resume military operations in Gaza, effectively ending a two-month ceasefire with Hamas.
On Highway 1, connecting Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, demonstrators held banners questioning whether Netanyahu was prioritizing his political survival over the nation’s security.
The protests intensified after Israeli airstrikes killed over 400 people in Gaza in one of the deadliest assaults since the conflict began.
Critics argue that Netanyahu’s actions serve to stabilize his fragile governing coalition amid his ongoing corruption trial and the looming budget vote.
Elias Shraga, chairman of the Movement for Quality Government in Israel, accused the prime minister of prolonging the war for political gain, claiming that Netanyahu is sacrificing lives to maintain power.
Netanyahu had been set to testify in his corruption case on Tuesday, but the hearing was canceled following the renewed military offensive.
He has denied any wrongdoing and insists that military pressure is necessary to secure the release of Israeli hostages.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid, who joined the protests, warned that the government’s actions threaten Israel’s democracy.
The decision to resume war has also restored Netanyahu’s alliance with far-right minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who had previously withdrawn support over the January ceasefire.
Amid growing divisions, some Israelis backed Netanyahu, arguing that national unity is essential for victory.
Volunteer ambulance driver Margalit Yachad expressed concern over internal discord, emphasizing that a divided nation cannot win.
As tensions escalate, fears of deeper national polarization and internal strife continue to rise.
