Explosion Damages Jewish School in Amsterdam, Mayor Calls It a Deliberate Attack
An explosion outside a Jewish school in Amsterdam has prompted a police investigation after authorities described the incident as a deliberate act targeting the Jewish community.
The blast occurred overnight in the Buitenveldert district of the Dutch capital, damaging part of the school’s outer wall. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported, but the incident has raised serious security concerns.
Mayor Femke Halsema strongly condemned the attack, describing it as an act of aggression directed at Jewish residents of the city. She emphasized that Amsterdam must remain a safe place for Jewish people to live and practice their faith.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and police units, were quickly dispatched to the scene after the explosion was reported. Authorities later began reviewing surveillance footage that reportedly shows an individual placing an explosive device near the building.
The attack came shortly after another security incident involving a suspected arson attempt at a synagogue in Rotterdam, which has heightened concerns about the safety of Jewish institutions in the country.
In a public statement, the mayor acknowledged the fear and anger felt within the Jewish community, noting that antisemitic incidents have become an increasing concern.
Police have launched a formal investigation into the explosion but have not yet announced a clear motive or identified suspects.
The incident also comes at a time of heightened global tensions, with security experts warning that Jewish and American institutions in various countries could face increased threats following recent military developments in the Middle East.
