Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has been arrested after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a warrant for his involvement in crimes against humanity related to his controversial "war on drugs."
The 79-year-old was taken into custody by local police shortly after arriving at Manila airport from Hong Kong.
Duterte, who served as president from 2016 to 2022 and mayor of Davao City before that, has faced international condemnation for his brutal anti-drug campaign, which led to thousands of deaths. Despite the ongoing legal actions, Duterte has not expressed regret for his crackdown.
