CIA’s "Ghost" Operation: The Strategic Deception That Saved a US Airman in Iran

CIA’s "Ghost" Operation: The Strategic Deception That Saved a US Airman in Iran

WASHINGTON D.C./ TEHRAN  — As the dust settles on the high-stakes rescue of a veteran U.S. Air Force Colonel from the rugged terrain of Iran, new details have emerged regarding a sophisticated "deception campaign" orchestrated by the CIA to outmaneuver Iranian forces.

While the world watched the military might of B-1 bombers and Reaper drones, a silent battle of wits was being fought in the shadows. Intelligence sources confirm that the CIA intentionally fed false information to Iranian leadership to buy the "golden hours" necessary for the extraction, reports the Fox News.

    The "False Trail" Strategy

The rescue of the F-15E Strike Eagle's weapons systems officer (WSO) was nearly compromised as Iranian military units began closing in on his distress beacon. To stall their advance, the CIA launched an aggressive disinformation campaign:

    • The Maritime "Diversion": Through multiple back-channels and intelligence assets within Iran, the CIA spread word that U.S. forces had already secured the officer.

    • The Fake Exfiltration: False reports suggested the airman was being moved toward a maritime extraction point in a completely different region of the country.

    • The Result: This "ghost" trail forced Iranian commanders to split their resources and focus on a non-existent sea escape, providing a critical 12-hour window for the real rescue team to touch down in the mountains.

    Confirming the "Beacon" Trap

A major hurdle in the operation was the fear that the airman's distress signal was actually an Iranian trap designed to lure U.S. Special Operations into an ambush.

"The stakes were astronomical," a senior administration official noted. "We couldn't risk a 'Black Hawk Down' scenario inside Iranian borders."

The CIA worked alongside Israeli intelligence to verify the signal. Using advanced technical surveillance and ground assets, they confirmed the Colonel’s identity and physical condition on Saturday morning. Once the "trap" theory was debunked, the mission shifted into high gear.

    A Show of Total Force

Once the location was locked, President Trump authorized an "all-in" military response to protect the extraction site. The operation featured:

    • Aero-Shielding: MQ-9 Reaper drones and B-1 Bombers established a "no-go zone" around the Colonel's hiding spot, striking any Iranian units that approached.

    • Speed of Action: Planes were in the air within eight hours of confirmation, and boots were on the ground inside Iran within twelve.

    The President’s Ultimatum

Following the successful rescue, President Trump took to Truth Social to praise the "bravery and talent" of the teams involved. However, the tone quickly shifted to a stern warning regarding the ongoing blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

The President has set a 10-day deadline for the reopening of the strategic oil route, threatening massive strikes on Iranian power plants and infrastructure—coined "Power Plant Day"—if the strait remains closed.
