Bangladesh Govt Urges Nationwide Fuel and Energy Saving Amid Global Supply Uncertainty
The government of Bangladesh has called on institutions and citizens across the country to reduce fuel and energy consumption amid concerns that global geopolitical tensions could disrupt international fuel supply chains.
In a notice issued on 5 March 2026, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources warned that the ongoing crisis in the Middle East may create instability in global energy markets. As a precautionary measure, authorities have urged all government offices, autonomous bodies, private organizations, industries, and citizens to adopt strict fuel conservation practices.
The notice emphasized the careful use of natural gas, advising consumers to use gas only for essential purposes. It also called for preventing unnecessary consumption, ensuring proper monitoring to avoid gas leakage, and stopping any illegal use of gas connections.
Regarding petroleum fuel, the government encouraged people to prioritize public transportation instead of private vehicles wherever possible. Citizens have also been advised to consider car-pooling systems and limit unnecessary travel to reduce fuel consumption.
Government institutions have been instructed to ensure efficient fuel management during office operations and official activities. Private organizations have also been asked to adopt similar conservation measures and avoid excessive energy use.
Officials say the steps are aimed at maintaining national energy security and ensuring stable fuel supply if global market conditions worsen. The ministry urged all stakeholders to follow the guidelines and help create public awareness about responsible fuel use.
