Bangladesh Family Targeted in Shooting Over Alleged Extramarital Affair, Four Injured
In a shocking incident at Khulna in Bangladesh, unidentified assailants entered a home early Thursday and opened fire on a family of four, police said.
Two of the victims are in critical condition and have been transferred from Khulna Medical College Hospital to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
The attack occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the Krishnanagar Thikarbada area under Lobonchora Police Station. The victims have been identified as Kazi Anisur Rahman, his wife Ranjuara Begum, their son Raeesul Islam, and Raeesul’s wife Fahima Akter. Both Ranjuara and Fahima are in serious condition.
Police and local sources said the attack was triggered by an extramarital affair. According to reports, Kazi Anisur’s younger son Rashidul had previously served time in prison for a drug case, where he befriended a man named Imran. After Rashidul’s release, he frequently visited Imran’s home, during which he reportedly began a relationship with Imran’s wife, Fahima. Six months ago, after Imran was jailed again for another case, Rashidul married Fahima.
Imran allegedly carried out the attack in revenge. Six people were reportedly involved in the shooting, and police are conducting a manhunt to apprehend the suspects.
Lobonchora Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Md. Tuhinuzzaman, said the attack stemmed from a personal dispute. Surgeons at Khulna Medical College were unable to remove bullets from Ranjuara’s chest and Fahima’s leg, necessitating their transfer to Dhaka for further treatment.
