Albanese Secures Historic Re-Election with Labor Landslide in Australia
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has led the Labor Party to a commanding victory, securing a rare second-term majority in what analysts are calling a historic landslide.
Despite official vote counting still underway, projections show Labor on track for 85 seats—nine more than before—while the Liberal-National Coalition slumps to around 40.
Albanese hailed the result as a vote for “fairness, aspiration, and opportunity,” pledging renewed focus on healthcare affordability, housing access, and climate action. He also reaffirmed his commitment to Indigenous reconciliation following the failed Voice referendum in 2023.
Opposition leader Peter Dutton conceded defeat and took full responsibility after losing his own seat of 24 years.
Meanwhile, international leaders, including UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, congratulated Albanese and expressed interest in strengthening ties with Australia.
The election, dominated by cost-of-living concerns, marks the first time in over two decades that a sitting Australian prime minister has won back-to-back terms with an increased majority.
