6 Family Members Burned in Chandpur Gas Leak Explosion

Six members of a family suffered burn injuries following a fire caused by a gas leak in Chandpur early Sunday.
The incident occurred at around 4:10 AM on the sixth floor of a building on Koralya Road, owned by Rustam Bepari.
Victims are identified as Abdur Rahman (65), a fruit trader at Chandpur Launch Ghat, his wife Shanu Begum (55), their eldest son Imam Hossain (40), Imam's wife Khadija Akter (30), their middle son's wife Diba Akter (20), and their youngest son Moin Hossain (20).
Among them, Abdur Rahman, Shanu Begum, Khadija Akter, and Moin Hossain, who sustained severe injuries, have been transferred to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. The remaining two are receiving treatment at the 250-bed Chandpur General Hospital.
According to local sources, Abdur Rahman and his family lived in a flat on the fourth floor of the building. The fire broke out when they attempted to light the stove for preparing sehri (the pre-dawn meal during Ramadan).
Gas leaking from a pipe ignited, causing flames to spread across three rooms, leaving six people burned. Three other residents in a separate room were unharmed. Neighbors quickly intervened, bringing the fire under control and rescuing the victims.
While most items in the kitchen were left undamaged, the fire destroyed a significant amount of furniture in the three affected rooms.
Zakir Hossain, son of the building owner, said "We immediately informed the fire service, but they did not arrive."
Dr. Mahmudul Hasan, an on-duty physician at Chandpur General Hospital, stated "Six people were brought in with burn injuries. Four of them, who are in critical condition, have been sent to Dhaka. A large portion of their bodies is burnt. The other two are out of danger and are being treated here."
