US TV journo Savannah Appeals for Missing Mother’s Safe Return as FBI Tests DNA
US television anchor Savannah Guthrie has made an emotional public appeal for the safe return of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, who vanished two weeks ago in what investigators believe may be a kidnapping.
In a video message, Guthrie addressed “whoever has her, or knows where she is,” urging them to come forward. “It is never too late to do the right thing,” she said, adding that her family continues to hold on to hope.
FBI Examining DNA from Recovered Glove
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed that investigators have recovered a glove containing DNA evidence. The glove was discovered in a field roughly two miles from Nancy Guthrie’s home in Tucson.
According to officials, around 16 gloves were collected from nearby areas during the search. Most were discarded by volunteers assisting in the effort.
However, one glove appears to match those worn by a masked suspect captured on doorbell camera footage the night Nancy disappeared.
Preliminary DNA analysis has been completed, but authorities are awaiting final confirmation before entering what they describe as an “unknown male profile” into a national database.
Surveillance Footage Reveals Masked Suspect
Earlier this week, investigators released doorbell camera footage showing a masked individual wearing gloves and carrying a backpack outside Nancy Guthrie’s home. In the video, the man approaches the camera and attempts to block its view before using nearby yard debris to further obscure it.
After forensic examination, the FBI estimated the suspect’s height to be between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches (175–177 cm), with an average build.
Authorities also identified the backpack seen in the footage as a 25-litre Ozark Trail Hiker Pack, a product reportedly sold at Walmart stores.
Investigators have been reviewing surveillance footage from nearby Walmart locations as part of the ongoing inquiry. However, no arrests have been made so far.
Timeline of Disappearance
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on the evening of January 31, when a family member dropped her at her home following a gathering at her daughter’s residence. Concern was raised the next day when members of her church noticed her absence and contacted family members.
Since then, the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office have launched an extensive search operation involving helicopters, trained search dogs, and hundreds of personnel. Authorities have also received thousands of tips from the public.
Investigators have warned that Nancy’s health may be at serious risk without her prescribed medication. Local officials have stated she suffers from physical health issues but has no known cognitive impairment.
On Friday, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at a property located about two miles from her residence, though no suspects were taken into custody. Officials also confirmed that DNA evidence collected at her home does not match her or her immediate family members.
Reward Increased to $100,000
The FBI has doubled the reward for credible information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts—from $50,000 to $100,000—underscoring the urgency of the case.
Authorities continue to urge anyone with relevant information to come forward as the investigation remains active.
