Fresh Twist in Salman Shah Death Probe: Samira and Don Under Travel Ban ravel
Bangladesh: A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on film star Salman Shah’s then-wife Samira Haque and actor Don in connection with a murder case filed over the actor’s death 29 years ago.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman issued the order on Monday after hearing a police petition seeking to restrict the duo from leaving the country.
Inspector Atikul Islam Khandaker of Ramna Police Station, the investigation officer of the case, submitted the application requesting the travel ban.
The murder case was registered with Ramna Police Station on October 21 as per a court directive regarding Salman Shah’s death in 1996.
Eleven individuals, including Samira Haque, have been accused in the case. Police said the information of the accused has already been sent to immigration authorities to prevent them from leaving the country.
Ramna Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Faruque told reporters that necessary steps have been taken to ensure that the accused still residing in Bangladesh cannot flee abroad.
According to the case statement, the accused include Samira Haque, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Latifa Haque Luchi, actor Don, and several unidentified individuals.
On September 6, 1996, Salman Shah was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his Eskaton residence in Dhaka. His father, Kamar Uddin Chowdhury, initially filed an unnatural death case. Later, in November 1997, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) submitted a final report stating the cause of death as suicide.
However, decades later, the case has resurfaced as a murder investigation following legal challenges from the actor’s family.
