
Five people were killed in a head-on collision between a cattle-laden truck and a battery-powered auto-rickshaw in Dupchanchia upazila of Bogura.
The accident occurred around 8:30 PM on Friday at the Dupchanchia Mail Bus Stand area on the Bogura-Naogaon highway.
According to police and local sources, the truck was traveling from Naogaon toward Bogura when it collided with an auto-rickshaw at the Mail Bus Stand area.
Four people died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries after being taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Md. Mojahar (60) and Md. Safiqul Islam (45) from Baniadighi village in Dupchanchia, Shahidul Islam (60) from Bara Akira in Adamdighi, Mejbah (32) from Majhipara in Dupchanchia, and auto-rickshaw driver Moyen Sardar (55) from Dipuil village.
Faridul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dupchanchia Police Station, said one of the victims was the auto-rickshaw driver, while three others were workers at a local tiles factory. The trio were returning home after work.
The bodies of four victims remain at the Dupchanchia Police Station till filing of this report.
