
Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a warning for thunderstorms and gusty winds in 14 districts across the country by Monday (May 19) night.
According to the alert, wind speeds may reach up to 60 km/h, and river ports in the affected regions have been advised to hoist cautionary signal number 1.
The alert, effective from 2:30 PM to 1:00 AM, forecasts temporary gusty or squally winds with rain or thundershowers in the regions of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Bogura, Rajshahi, Pabna, Jashore, Kushtia, Faridpur, Dhaka, Cumilla, Noakhali, Tangail, Mymensingh, and Sylhet.
The winds are expected to blow from the west or northwest direction at speeds of 45–60 km/h.
In its morning bulletin issued at 9 AM on Monday, the weather office predicted scattered thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall with temporary gusts across many areas in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions.
Isolated places in the Dhaka division may also experience such weather, while a few areas in Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions could see brief showers. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also likely in some parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions.
