Security Forces Deployed Ahead of Election
Bangladesh has begun nationwide deployment of the armed forces and other law enforcement agencies from Sunday to ensure a free, fair, neutral, and peaceful 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum.
The Election Commission (EC) confirmed that 1,051 executive magistrates have been deployed across the country to maintain law and order. Their duties will continue until February 14, covering the critical pre- and post-election period.
Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud said on Saturday that the army had already been active in the field and would be further reinforced starting Sunday. Officially, members of the armed forces will remain deployed for seven days before and after the election.
He said all law enforcement agencies will operate in close coordination with respective returning officers, while the EC’s central coordination cell will monitor the overall situation. The commission will also receive real-time security updates through a dedicated monitoring application.
“With only a few days remaining before the vote, all preparations are in place. Voters are preparing for a festive polling day after campaign activities end,” Masud said. He added that the Election Commission believes the election environment is stable and the law and order situation remains under control.
According to the election schedule, campaigning must end by 7:30 am on February 10, while voting will take place on February 12.
