Prime Minister Presents Ekushey Padak 2026 to Distinguished Recipients

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has formally conferred the Ekushey Padak 2026 to nine distinguished individuals and one prominent institution in recognition of their outstanding contributions to national life.

The award ceremony was held on Thursday afternoon at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital city. The event was organized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, where the prime minister handed over medals, certificates and monetary rewards to the laureates in the presence of cabinet members, senior civil and military officials, and invited dignitaries.

Among the awardees in the performing arts category was actress Farida Akhtar Bobita, while architecture professor Marina Tabassum received the honor for her internationally acclaimed architectural contributions. In fine arts, the award went to Md. Abdus Sattar.

The music category included the posthumous recognition of legendary rock musician Ayub Bachchu. Other cultural fields were represented by dancers Arthi Ahmed and traditional folk performer Islam Uddin Palakar. Journalism veteran Shafiq Rehman was honored for lifelong courage in the field of media.

In education and research, awards were given to Mahbubul Alam Majumdar, and sculptor Tejash Haldar Joss. For the first time, a musical band was recognized with the honor as Warfaze received the prestigious award for its contribution to the country’s music scene.

The prime minister congratulated the recipients and said that the achievements of these eminent personalities would inspire future generations to pursue patriotism, creativity and excellence. After the ceremony, he was scheduled to inaugurate the historic Ekushey Book Fair later in the afternoon.
