Prime Accused Confesses in Magura Child Rape Case

The prime accused in the Magura child rape case, the child's sister's father-in-law, has confessed to the crime in court.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Sabyasachi Roy recorded his statement this afternoon, according to police and court sources.

Officials said the accused, who had been on a seven-day remand, expressed his willingness to give a confessional statement.

He was produced before the court at around 10:15 AM, and his statement was recorded until 4:00 PM, after which he was sent to jail.

Court sources confirmed that the accused admitted to committing the crime alone. However, details regarding when and how the incident occurred remain unclear.

Magura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ayub Ali said, "The accused was presented in court upon his request to give a confession. However, we do not have an official account of his statement yet."

The child's mother filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, accusing the child’s sister’s husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law. Police placed all four suspects on remand, though only one has confessed so far. The remaining three are still under interrogation.

According to the case dossier, the eight-year-old girl had visited her elder sister’s in-laws in a municipal area of Magura on March 1. On March 6, she was found unconscious and taken to Magura 250-bed Hospital. Later, on March 13, she passed away while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.

The case details also mention that four months before the incident, the victim’s elder sister had married a young man from Magura. Her in-laws included her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law. The accused father-in-law had reportedly been making inappropriate advances toward his daughter-in-law since the marriage, which led to family disputes.

On the night of March 5, after having dinner, the eight-year-old girl slept in the same room as her sister and brother-in-law. Around 2:30 AM, the elder sister woke up to find the child missing and later discovered her lying on the floor. The child later revealed that her brother-in-law had opened the door for his father, who then forcibly took her to his room, assaulted her, and left her back in her sister's room. The rapist allegedly prevented the girl from shouting.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities continue to interrogate the other suspects.
