One bullet-hit as Gunshots Fired at Protesting Students in Gazipur

A member of the anti-discriminatory student movement in Gazipur sustained a bullet injury during their protest rally in the city on Saturday evening.

Mobasher Hossain, a 26-year-old active member of the movement, was injured in the attack. He is the son of Ali Ahmed from Harinal Dakshinpara in Gazipur city. He was rushed to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for treatment.

Gunshots were fired at students involved in the anti-discrimination movement in front of the Gazipur District Commissioner's Office on Saturday evening.

Sources said at around 6:30 PM, armed assailants on motorcycles fired shots at the students standing in front of the office. The attackers, coming from the direction of Zor Pukurpar, quickly fled the scene after the shooting.

According to several students present at the scene, protests were held on Rajbari Road earlier in the day, demanding justice for the attack.

The students blocked the road, and at around 4:30 PM, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nazmul Karim Khan assured the students that justice would be served and the perpetrators would be arrested. Following the assurance, the students lifted their blockade at 5:00 PM.

During the protest, a group of students reportedly vandalized the District Awami League Office and also damaged a sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of the Liberation War Complex.

In a statement, Mobasher Hossain described the moment of the attack, saying that they were bidding farewell to one another when the assailants arrived on a motorcycle and shot at them.

The bullet hit his right arm, but he survived the attack. Nearby residents rushed him to the hospital for treatment.

Doctors at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital confirmed that the bullet had struck his right arm. He has received initial medical care and is currently admitted to the Surgery Department for further treatment.

Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman, Investigation Officer at Gazipur Sadar Police Station, confirmed that the student was shot in the arm and is receiving medical treatment. The police are investigating the incident.
