North South University Students and Faculty Visit Felicity IDC Limited for Industry-Study Tour

Gazipur, July 24, 2025 — Felicity IDC Limited (FIDC), a state-of-the-art Tier-III certified data center, hosted a day-long industry study tour at its headquarters in Kaliakair Hi-Tech Park (KHTP), Gazipur. The visit, held on July 24, 2025, brought together 35 participants, including students and faculty members from the Departments of Architecture and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at North South University (NSU).
As technical education increasingly emphasizes hands-on learning, such industry visits play a vital role in bridging the gap between academia and the professional field. The tour was organized in collaboration with WHOSWHO, the official HR partner of Felicity IDC Limited. The initiative aimed to strengthen academic-industry collaboration and provide participants with firsthand exposure to one of Bangladesh’s most advanced data centers and its robust digital infrastructure.
The program began with an interactive session led by Mr. Samir Benjamin, General Manager of Felicity IDC Limited, who shared insights on the future of digital infrastructure. He discussed the transformative potential of Starlink satellite internet technology in enhancing nationwide connectivity and emphasized how most consumers indirectly rely on FIDC’s services through its nationwide fiber-optic network.
NSU faculty members highlighted the growing importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in the digital era, noting the significance of participation from both Architecture and CSE students in a shared industry visit. They emphasized how such joint experiences benefit students across disciplines by broadening their perspectives.
At the end of the session, Mr. Shahriar Iqbal Raj, Chair of the Department of Architecture, presented a token of appreciation and an NSU souvenir to the FIDC team.
Participants were then given exclusive access to FIDC’s cutting-edge facilities, including a guided tour of the powerhouse. This immersive experience offered valuable learning opportunities related to data center operations, fire safety, and power management. Visitors gained insight into the complexities of operating a Tier-III certified facility, including colocation services, global bandwidth distribution, and Fiber@Home’s extensive 1-million-core-kilometer fiber network.
A total of 27 students participated in the visit, accompanied by the following five faculty members:
• Ar. Shahriar Iqbal Raj, Assistant Professor and Chair, Department of Architecture
• Ar. Mujtaba Ahsan, Associate Professor, Department of Architecture
• Dr. Mohammad Shifat-E-Rabbi, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)
• Nabil Shahidi, Senior Lecturer, Department of Architecture
• Nahin Iqbal Chowdhury, Junior Lecturer, Department of Architecture
This industry visit provided a valuable opportunity for NSU students to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications—particularly in engineering innovation, architectural planning, and digital infrastructure. Such exposure plays a crucial role in enriching academic curricula and supporting accreditation standards for technical and design education programs.
