Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, the Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, has emphasized that the military must not engage in politics.
In a Facebook post on Friday morning (May 23), Taiyeb stated, "In today's world, no military in a civilized country engages in politics."
He underscored the importance of respecting and maintaining the trust of the military, noting, "The military must be accorded the respect it deserves and must be kept in confidence. However, no hasty or reckless decisions should be made regarding the military."
Taiyeb also cautioned against rehabilitating political parties in the name of inclusiveness, specifically referring to the Awami League.
Criticizing the Army Chief's recent remarks calling for elections by December, Taiyeb described them as beyond his jurisdiction, stating, "He failed to maintain jurisdictional correctness."
In the same post, Taiyeb clarified that Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has no intention of resigning.
"Dr. Yunus does not seek power, but he is essential for a peaceful democratic transition in Bangladesh," he wrote.
He urged the cabinet to become more dynamic and the government more functional, with advisors taking on greater responsibilities and making visible progress.
"We must show that, after coming to power with the people’s consent following the popular uprising, the Professor has delivered results."
Highlighting Dr. Yunus’s international reputation, Taiyeb noted, "It is our duty to uphold Dr. Yunus's honor on the global stage."
He also stressed the need for the government to initiate more intensive and regular dialogues with political parties to prevent disconnection and disunity.
Regarding the upcoming elections, Taiyeb expressed optimism that all necessary preparations would be completed to hold the election between April and May.
He also mentioned the importance of carrying out all reasonable reforms, including what he referred to as the "July Charter."
Taiyeb concluded with a forward-looking statement, expecting national celebrations in July-August 2025 to mark one year of the July uprising, and expressed hope that the first verdict in the trial of "dictator and murderer Hasina" would be delivered by August.
He ended the post with political slogans including:
“Inquilab Zindabad.
Professor Yunus Zindabad.
Bangladesh Zindabad.”
