Memoranda Submitted to 3 Advisors for 2025 Ordinance Repeal

Bangladesh: Protests by secretariat employees against the "Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025" continued on Sunday, as demonstrators submitted memoranda to three key government advisors demanding the immediate repeal of the ordinance.
Around 11 AM, employees gathered near Building No. 6 at the Secretariat's Badamtola area and began a protest march, voicing their opposition to the recently enacted ordinance.
As part of the demonstration, they handed memoranda to three advisors.
First, a memorandum was submitted to Ali Imam Majumder, Advisor to the Ministry of Food and Land. The protesters then visited the offices of Muhammad Faozul Kabir Khan, Advisor to the Ministries of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources; Road Transport and Bridges; and Railways, and submitted another memorandum.
Later, they attempted to meet Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministries of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Water Resources.
Although she was not present at the time, organizers later confirmed that the memorandum was delivered to her in the afternoon.
This protest follows an earlier announcement by employee groups on Thursday, declaring plans to submit memoranda to five advisors over several days.
According to the schedule, memoranda will be submitted to Advisors Mahfuz Alam and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan on Monday, June 2.
The contested ordinance, issued on May 25, allows for the dismissal of government employees for four types of disciplinary violations without formal departmental proceedings—merely through a show-cause notice. The ordinance was approved in draft form during an advisory council meeting on May 22. Since May 24, all major secretariat employee associations have united in protest, labeling the ordinance as oppressive and undemocratic. They continue to demand its immediate withdrawal.
