Khaleda Zia Returns Home on May 5
After receiving medical treatment in London, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on Monday, May 5.
Although her party initially announced that she would travel on a regular flight operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the plan has since changed.
BNP has now confirmed that she will be flown home aboard an air ambulance provided by the Emir of Qatar. The exact arrival time is yet to be finalized.
On Saturday evening (May 3), BNP Chairperson’s media wing member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed the arrangement, stating, “Madam will return home on Monday (May 5) aboard the air ambulance sent by the Emir of Qatar.”
Earlier, on Friday (May 2), BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told the media that the Chairperson would return after nearly four months abroad.
“InshaAllah, Madam is returning home on the morning of May 5,” he said.
He also mentioned that Khaleda Zia is likely to be accompanied by her two daughters-in-law—Zubaida Rahman, wife of Tarique Rahman, and Syeda Sharmila Rahman, wife of the late Arafat Rahman.
When asked about her health, Fakhrul said, “Alhamdulillah, she is definitely doing better than before.”
Regarding the travel arrangements, the BNP leader noted, “There has been a technical delay in the availability of the air ambulance that was initially used to transport her to London. If that service becomes unavailable at the last moment, Madam had decided she would return on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight.”
Khaleda Zia was taken to London on January 8 for advanced medical care. After 17 days of treatment at a London clinic, she was moved to her son Tarique Rahman’s residence on January 25. This year, she celebrated Eid with her family for the first time in over half a decade.

৫ মে দেশে ফিরছেন খালেদা জিয়া
চিকিৎসা শেষে যুক্তরাজ্যের লন্ডন থেকে দেশে ফিরছেন বিএনপি চেয়ারপারসন খালেদা জিয়া। আগামী সোমবার, ৫ মে তিনি ঢাকায় পৌঁছাবেন বলে বিএনপির পক্ষ থেকে নিশ্চিত করা হয়েছে।
শুরুতে জানানো হয়েছিল, তিনি বিমান বাংলাদেশ এয়ারলাইন্সের একটি সাধারণ ফ্লাইটে ফিরবেন। তবে শেষ মুহূর্তে সিদ্ধান্ত পরিবর্তন করে কাতারের আমিরের পাঠানো একটি এয়ার অ্যাম্বুলেন্সে করে দেশে ফিরছেন তিনি। এখনও তার আগমনের নির্দিষ্ট সময় চূড়ান্ত হয়নি।
শনিবার (৩ মে) সন্ধ্যায় বিএনপি চেয়ারপারসনের মিডিয়া উইংয়ের সদস্য শায়রুল কবির খান বলেন, "ম্যাডাম কাতারের আমিরের পাঠানো এয়ার অ্যাম্বুলেন্সে সোমবার (৫ মে) দেশে ফিরছেন।"
এর আগে শুক্রবার (২ মে) বিএনপি মহাসচিব মির্জা ফখরুল ইসলাম আলমগীর সাংবাদিকদের জানান, প্রায় চার মাস চিকিৎসা শেষে ৫ মে দেশে ফিরছেন খালেদা জিয়া।
তিনি বলেন, "ইনশাআল্লাহ, ম্যাডাম আগামী ৫ মে সকালে দেশে ফিরছেন। আমাদের যতটুকু জানা, তার সঙ্গে দুই পুত্রবধূ—তারেক রহমানের স্ত্রী জোবাইদা রহমান এবং আরাফাত রহমানের স্ত্রী সৈয়দা শর্মিলা রহমান—ফিরবেন।"
খালেদা জিয়ার শারীরিক অবস্থার বিষয়ে জানতে চাইলে ফখরুল বলেন, "আলহামদুলিল্লাহ, আগের তুলনায় তিনি নিঃসন্দেহে ভালো আছেন।"
ভ্রমণের ব্যবস্থাপনা নিয়ে তিনি বলেন, "ম্যাডামের লন্ডনে যাতায়াতের জন্য যেই এয়ার অ্যাম্বুলেন্সটি কাতারের আমির পাঠিয়েছিলেন, সেটি ফেরত আসার ব্যাপারে কিছুটা টেকনিক্যাল জটিলতা হচ্ছে। তাই ম্যাডাম সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছেন, যদি শেষ মুহূর্তে অ্যাম্বুলেন্সটি পাওয়া না যায়, তাহলে তিনি বাংলাদেশ বিমানের ফ্লাইটেই ফিরবেন।"
উল্লেখ্য, উন্নত চিকিৎসার জন্য গত ৮ জানুয়ারি খালেদা জিয়াকে লন্ডনে নেওয়া হয়। ১৭ দিন লন্ডনের একটি ক্লিনিকে চিকিৎসা শেষে ২৫ জানুয়ারি তাকে তারেক রহমানের বাসায় স্থানান্তর করা হয়। অর্ধযুগেরও বেশি সময় পর এবার তিনি পরিবারের সদস্যদের সঙ্গে ঈদ উদযাপন করেন।
