
Dhaka, June 01, 2025: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has taken cognizance of five charges of crimes against humanity, including genocide, incitement, and conspiracy, against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.
This marks the first time any judicial proceedings have formally begun against the ousted Prime Minister.
The court has issued arrest warrants for Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, while former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun is already under arrest.
Earlier at 12 PM, formal charges were submitted at the ICT Registrar's office in relation to the July mass killings.
The charges were filed by Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tazul Islam, accompanied by other prosecutors.
The tribunal has accepted the complaint, which identifies Sheikh Hasina as the key instigator and mastermind behind the alleged crimes during July and August, during July Revolution.
This development signals a significant step in holding top former government officials accountable for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.
