Employees Protest Inside Secretariat Amid Tight Security

Amid heavy security deployment, government employees staged a protest inside the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday, demanding the withdrawal of the 'Government Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025'. The protest marks the fourth consecutive day of demonstrations by public servants.
Following their previously announced schedule, the protest began shortly after 11:00 am. Around 11:45 am, a large number of employees were seen marching toward the new buildings of the Cabinet Division and Ministry of Public Administration inside the Secretariat compound.
In response to the planned protest, strict security measures have been taken throughout the Secretariat. By 10:00 am, members of the specialized police unit SWAT had been deployed at the main gate, while personnel from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were stationed in front of the premises. Entry has been restricted to only government officials and staff.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had earlier announced that no visitors would be allowed to enter the Secretariat today.
As part of the restrictions, journalists were also denied access on Tuesday morning.
Police personnel stationed inside said a decision on allowing journalists to enter would be made around noon.
On Monday, employees from various ministries and departments continued their protest for a third straight day and announced they would resume their demonstrations today.
They also urged government office workers across the country to hold similar programs outside the Secretariat in solidarity.
The protesting employees have united under the newly formed platform called the Bangladesh Secretariat Officers and Employees Unity Forum, vowing to continue their movement until their demand is met.
