Election Campaigns End Tuesday
Dhaka: All election campaigning by political parties and candidates will officially end at 7:30 am on Tuesday, February 10, ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum scheduled for February 12.
The decision follows the legal requirement to halt all campaign activities 48 hours before voting begins. The Election Commission (EC) said the restriction will be strictly enforced nationwide.
Confirming the matter, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said that after the deadline, political parties and candidates will not be allowed to hold rallies, processions, public meetings, distribute campaign materials, or conduct any form of media promotion.
Voting will take place simultaneously across the country on Thursday, February 12, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Balloting will be conducted using paper ballots and transparent ballot boxes.
This year’s election will be held in 299 parliamentary constituencies, instead of the usual 300. Voting in the Sherpur-3 constituency has been postponed following the death of a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate.
According to EC Secretariat sources, ballot papers have already been dispatched to returning officers in 49 districts. Distribution to the remaining districts is expected to be completed by Sunday.
The total number of registered voters in the election stands at 127,711,899. Among them are 64,825,154 male voters, 62,885,525 female voters, and 1,220 voters from the third gender community.
