Chief Adviser of Bangladesh Interim Government Prof Muhammad Yunus has indicated that the national election may take place in December.
Speaking at an interactive plenary session during the World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai, Yunus suggested that the polls would be held at the earliest possible date, saying, "probably in December this year."
The session was moderated by Becky Anderson of CNN at the WGS Conference Venue.
Currently in the United Arab Emirates to attend the summit, Yunus outlined some of the interim government’s key priorities in response to a question.
He emphasized maintaining law and order and initiating extensive reforms to rebuild the country, society, and institutions, which he said had "completely failed under the previous autocratic government led by Sheikh Hasina."
As part of the reform efforts, the government has established 15 commissions to address various sectors, including law enforcement, police administration, the constitution, and the election system, he noted.
"These commissions are reporting back with their suggestions and recommendations on necessary changes. Now, we have what we call a consensus-building commission. We will go to the political parties and so on, see which are the recommendations all agree on," Yunus explained.
He added, "So that we take that as a charter and then implement an important election."
