Bangladesh: The Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Court has granted a five-day remand for Limon Mia (34), the prime suspect in the murder of a judge’s teenage son and the attempted murder of his wife.
The order was issued on Saturday afternoon by Magistrate Mamunur Rashid of Court No. 2.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police spokesperson Gaziur Rahman confirmed the development. He said the investigation officer, SI Asadul Islam of Rajpara Police Station, sought a seven-day remand to interrogate the accused. After the hearing, the court approved five days.
According to police, Rajshahi Medical College Hospital authorities discharged Limon around 11:30 am, after which he was brought before the court.
The remand hearing took place at 2 pm, and following approval, he was handed over to Rajpara Police Station for detailed questioning.
The incident took place on Thursday at the residence of District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahman in the Terakhadia Dabtala area of Rajshahi city.
Police say Limon, a resident of Fulchhari in Gaibandha, entered the home and fatally attacked the judge’s 15-year-old son, Tawseef Rahman, using both stabbing and suffocation. The judge’s wife, Tasmin Nahar Lucy (44), was also severely injured in the knife attack.
During the struggle, Limon himself sustained injuries and was admitted to the hospital under police supervision.
On Friday, Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahman filed a murder case with Rajpara Police Station, naming Limon as the sole accused. The case statement alleges that the attack was premeditated.
Meanwhile, a Rajshahi court has ordered the city’s Police Commissioner, Mohammad Abu Sufian, to appear and explain why an accused was allowed to speak to the media while in police custody.
The directive was issued today (Saturday) by the Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate’s Cognizance Court after the media broadcast statements made by Limon Mia, who was arrested in connection with the murder of Rajshahi’s Judge Abdur Rahman’s son.
The court instructed Police Commissioner Sufian to appear by next Wednesday and present a formal explanation.
