Dhaka, Feb 13, 2026: Bangladesh’s 13th Parliamentary Election has reshaped the country’s political landscape, with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) securing a decisive and unprecedented majority.

The party, led by Tarique Rahman, achieved the landmark victory shortly after his return to the country following 17 years abroad.

According to preliminary results, the BNP-led alliance won more than two-thirds of the 300 parliamentary seats, placing the party in a commanding position to form the next government.

Political observers describe the outcome as a turning point that could influence governance, economic reforms, and foreign policy direction in the coming years.

The election was marked by significant voter participation across the country, and international observers expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct of the polls.

    International Media Reaction

Global media outlets closely followed the election and highlighted the scale of the political shift.

The United Kingdom-based broadcaster BBC reported that the election outcome represents a dramatic transformation in Bangladesh’s political equation. It noted that Tarique Rahman’s return after nearly two decades and the subsequent electoral victory reflect a strong public appetite for political change.

News agency Reuters described the result as a “landslide victory,” suggesting that the BNP’s return to power may have far-reaching implications for Bangladesh’s economy, trade policy, and regional engagement.

US-based network CNN highlighted that despite intense political competition, voters were able to cast their ballots in a participatory environment, calling the election a significant democratic exercise.

Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera said the results could redefine Bangladesh’s political balance and set a new course for policy direction under the incoming government.

    United States Congratulates BNP

The United States Embassy in Dhaka in its facebook message congratulated the people of Bangladesh for holding what it described as a successful election and extended congratulations to the BNP and Tarique Rahman on their historic victory.

In an official message, the embassy stated that the United States looks forward to working with the new leadership to advance shared goals of prosperity and security between the two countries.

    Message from India

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his warm congratulations to Tarique Rahman, stating that the victory reflects the trust of the Bangladeshi people in his leadership.

Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh and expressed his desire to strengthen multifaceted bilateral ties and pursue shared development goals.

    Pakistan’s Response

Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari congratulated Tarique Rahman and the people of Bangladesh, reiterating Pakistan’s support for democratic partnership and shared progress.

In a separate message, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his felicitations on what he termed a resounding victory. He expressed hope for closer cooperation to strengthen historic bilateral relations and promote peace, stability, and development in South Asia.

    China Signals Stronger Cooperation

The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka also congratulated Bangladesh on the successful completion of the election and extended its best wishes to the BNP leadership.

Beijing expressed readiness to work closely with the new government to enhance strategic cooperation and expand collaboration in infrastructure development and economic initiatives.

A New Political and Diplomatic Phase

Diplomatic analysts view the swift congratulatory messages from major global powers—including India, the United States, China, and Pakistan—as an indication of Bangladesh’s continued geopolitical importance.

As the BNP prepares to form the next government, attention will now turn to how it addresses economic stability, governance reforms, and regional diplomacy.

The international recognition that followed the election outcome marks the beginning of what many describe as a significant new chapter in Bangladesh’s political and diplomatic journey.
