Bangladesh Limits Mobile and Internet Banking Ahead of National Election
Dhaka, Feb 8, 2026: Bangladesh Bank has announced new restrictions on mobile financial services (MFS) and internet banking to prevent misuse of funds during the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election. The restrictions will be in effect from midnight tonight until 11:59 PM on February 12, election day.
Limits on Mobile Financial Transactions
Under the new rules, MFS users of platforms like bKash, Rocket, and Nagad can send a maximum of BDT 1,000 per transaction. The daily transaction limit is set at BDT 10,000.
Internet Banking Person-to-Person Transfers Suspended
Person-to-person (P2P) transfers via internet banking and banking apps will be temporarily suspended. However, payments for merchant services or utility bills will continue as usual.
Measures to Monitor and Report Suspicious Transactions
MFS providers must closely monitor all transactions during this period. Any suspicious or unusual activity must be reported immediately to the nearest police station. Each provider is required to set up an emergency response team to handle complaints and coordinate with authorities.
Cooperation with Election Commission and Law Enforcement
Bangladesh Bank has instructed MFS companies and banks to provide full support to the Election Commission and law enforcement agencies to ensure compliance and prevent financial misuse during the election.
