Bangladesh: Dhaka experienced another earthquake on Saturday evening as tremors were felt at 6:04pm. Residents in parts of the capital reported brief shaking, causing concern just hours after a similar incident earlier in the day.
The first quake on Saturday struck at 10:36am, with the Bangladesh Meteorological Department confirming that the epicentre was in Palash, Narsingdi. The mild tremor measured 3.3 on the Richter scale.
This follows a stronger earthquake that hit the country on Friday (21 November). Measuring 5.7 in magnitude, the quake was felt at 10:38am across Dhaka and numerous other districts. Its epicentre was located in Madhabdi, Narsingdi. The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the magnitude slightly lower at 5.5 but confirmed the same epicentral area.
The moderate tremor sent waves of panic across the capital, with residents rushing out of homes and offices as buildings shook for several seconds. Shaking was also reported from Chandpur, Jhenaidah, Nilphamari, Sitakunda, Sirajganj, Narayanganj, Patuakhali, Bogura, Barishal, and Moulvibazar—indicating a widespread impact.
Authorities say Friday’s quake has so far claimed 10 lives nationwide. At least 400 others were injured, many due to falling debris or while jumping from buildings in panic.
Seismologists and disaster management officials are urging the public to remain cautious as repeated tremors in a short span of time have raised fresh concerns.
